“Create a Better Life”

“Create a Better Life” is the theme of Auto Shanghai 2019, held at National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) from April 18th to April 25th.
With the tendency of electrification, intelligence, connectivity and shared mobility developing from concepts to application, this event set the future mobility area for the first time.

All renowned manufacturers, suppliers and numerous start-ups showed  their innovations:
Alfa Romeo, Lamborghini, Maserati, Aston Martin, Lotus, Audi, GMC/Chassis, Zoemo, Speed Auto, Shenzer Automobile, Yasheng Automobile, Weihao Auto Zhong bao shi, Mu Shang Automobile, and also CMIM Network, Horizon Robotics, Alios, Velodyne, PONY.AI, Holomatic Technology, Shanghai Onstar Telematics, Envision, China Electronics Technology Group Corporation, Asia-Pacific Mechanical & Electronic, NXP Semiconductors, Hesai Technology, LiangDao .AI, Beijing Surestar Technology and SAIC Motors Corporation Limited are just some of the brands that partecipated in the event.

Features at this year’s show, range from AI driver assistance to driverless trucks and buses.
Huawei, attending for the first time, displayed its intelligent driving computing platform with self-developed AI chips and 5G-related infrastructure. It supports a “smooth upgrade” from L2 (vehicles with smart features) to L5 (fully self-driving).
Bosch, the world’s leading auto parts vendor, showed off a concept self-driving bus which it says will “shape the new future of electrified, connected, automated and personalized mobility.”
Shanghai-based AI startup Westwell displayed its self-driving new-energy truck, which uses AI technologies in visual recognition, environment-detection and extreme precision positioning.
The truck, with an AI-featured chip developed by Westwell, is expected to be used in ports and mining operations, including in Belt and Road countries and regions, from later this year. It can be fully charged within two hours.
Also german car parts maker ZF made the world debut of its AI driver assistance system named coPILOT.

The ZF coPILOT is equipped with artificial intelligence, a 360° sensor set, the powerful ZF ProAI central computer and NVIDIAs DRIVE platform, thus offering driving and safety functions that surpass the performance of a regular Level 2 system for semi-automated driving. ZF coPILOT can be operated with voice commands and is designed to recognize traffic conditions, sense vehicle handling and monitor the driver, helping to pre-empt hazardous situations through active control intervention.

The Audi AI:ME shows the ideas of Audi designers and developers for a compact car of the future. The show car offers a roomy, futuristic interior and capability for level 4 automated driving. This allows the occupants the freedom to do what they like with their time on board. The Audi AI:ME offers a broad range of high-tech features for communication, entertainment, or simply relaxation.

Described as having a “light, airy, minimalistic design”, the driverless vehicle IoT Shuttle is said to be capable of travelling almost silently through urban environments. Bosch’s concept features 360° sensors and an intelligent battery management system allow the vehicle to monitor its own power levels and locate a power source when necessary. The shuttle’s radar, video, sensor and braking control systems are all made by Bosch, with the company keen to demonstrate that it has the capacity to provide most of the infrastructure that will become necessary with the advent of driverless technology.

Shanghai startup Westwell’s Q-Truck, is a new-energy self-driving truck and it will be used in Belt and Road initiative which is a development strategy adopted by the Chinese government involving infrastructure development and investments in 152 countries.

SAIC Motor, a chinese car company which builds Volkswagens for the national market, presented Vision I, a concept of level four, meaning high level of automation. According to the car manufacturer the design that characterizes this vehicle is a vision of what cars will look like in the future.
